One of the main drivers for aquaculture production is being able to trade the final product. Formal trade, where people sell their products in a market is just one of the aspects being studied by AFGRP partners. People also share harvests with their families and friends, often to gain social capital, so that they can ask a favour in the future. People even use fish as money - paying fishermen who come to harvest from ponds with a percentage of the catch.

As well assessing market opportunities within developing countries, we are also researchers export options, including our work with Fair Trade. Some specific information on our activities under this theme are:-

Marketing opportunities for prawns, Bangladesh

Potentials and constraints for fair trade shrimp from the Philippines

More will be posted in due course
