| R8119: The Impact of Aquatic Animal Health Strategies on Livelihoods of Poor People in Asia |
 |
Project Summary The project addresses widely recognised constraints in the delivery of aquatic animal health services to poorer small-scale producers in Asia, hypothesising that new knowledge systems can be used to refocus approaches. Based in particular on the potential for epidemiological techniques to provide better risk management using simple field interventions, the project will integrate social and biological analysis, using action research, to assess how knowledge environments can be restructured to deliver more benefit. With wide participation, based on secondary data and field case studies, the project will first examine the flow and quality of information, up and down stream, to assess effectiveness and develop strategies to improve impact. These will then be tested and the processes of change, knowledge transfer and impacts assessed to produce and disseminate generic strategies for aquatic health management.
