Introduction to integration of aquaculture in irrigation systems
Raising fish in irrigation systems could be a fundamental part of adopting a multiple use approach to using water more efficiently. As both wild fish stocks and water become resources under pressure there is increasing interest in evaluating the integration of aquaculture within irrigation systems. Stocking fish within the physical structures used to capture, store and transfer water potentially increases overall benefits but the practice is poorly developed.
